Just hook it to my veins!
When Guns N ‘Roses began to gain popularity, I was known as a big drinker. I remember I got a call from a company that engaged in the production of a new animated series, and asked whether it was possible to use my name as a brand of beer that would appear in the episodes. I had fun and gave his consent. It sounded like another cheap project - well, who will be making cartoons for adults? I never thought that this would become animated series “The Simpsons.” Several years passed, and the attributes with symbols of Duff beer met us everywhere, no matter where we went on tour.

♫ You put the beer in the coconut and drink it all up, you put the beer in the coconut and throw the can away.
‘Homer!’
You throw the can away.
‘I said, Homer!’
Probably the most famous beer on TV is Duff, the parody beer that is Homer’s favorite on The Simpsons (which is the longest running series on TV). Duff beer satirizes corporate beer marketing in every aspect, everything from Duffman to Brewery Tours to Duff Gardens to corporate competitors brands like Fudd. And like most popular TV shows almost everything is merchandized, but while you can buy a Duff beverage at the end of the Simpsons ride in Universal Studios (it’s an energy drink), Matt Groening has famous refused to allow real beer to be brewed using the “Duff” name (citing concerns it would encourage underage drinking).
Unlike some other fake/parody beer brands, Duff has become recognizable enough part of the show to become a real (albeit unlicensed) beer brand of it’s own. In fact, at least two companies have been brewing “Duff” beer, and a recent court decision decided who had the rights to use the Duff name. One of the brews is even is pretty tasty on a hot summer afternoon. That brings all the parodies of beer marketing Duff mocked full circle, making Homer’s fave beer a continued source of and solution to all of life’s problems…
